The Opera

Most people don't know this:

I sang almost every day for ten years – in a boy choir and the opera.

-> Practice five days a week.

-> Solo training and piano lessons.

-> Homework in the afternoon.

-> Church on Sundays.

-> Two or three bigger tours a year.

But the audience only sees the final performance. Never the work that goes into it.

Last week I went back to the opera. As a guest this time. And I thought about the week I'd just had. One of my posts reached 25,000 people. A lot of new connections and three meetings booked – one of them with a major Austrian bank.

What nobody saw: the 200 posts that failed. The ones that only reached a few hundred. The ones that nobody reacted to.

That's the part everyone wants to ignore and skip.

-> The first recording has to be a hit.

-> The first post has to go viral.

-> Every number should go up from day one.

It doesn't work like that in music, and it doesn't work like that in personal branding.

So, you can go to practice and make the mistakes yourself, or you pay someone who’s already made them. Either way, somebody has to put in the work.

What have you expected to be good at without the practice?

Reply if you like. I read every one.

All the best, Johan
