“These are my thoughts, my words. Just summarised extremely well.”
A senior leader in finance said that to me yesterday, two minutes into our follow-up call. He had to get straight to it, he said.
I said what I always say.
“None of it is made up. They are your words, just rearranged a bit.”
He agreed. That was exactly the point. It wasn’t something “some big computer spat out”.
Then he said something I hadn’t heard before:
“This is something I’ve been looking for for an unbelievably long time. Someone who helps me improve it, no-nonsense and precise, but in a way where I still recognise myself.”
Most senior leaders I meet aren’t short of people who can write. What they rarely have is someone who asks, listens, and leaves out everything that isn’t theirs.
That’s the work. The questions. The listening. Writing comes last.

Read them slowly. One of them will make you pause. That’s where your story is.
Which one would you answer first? Reply and tell me – I read every one.
In the meantime, I wish you a relaxing weekend!
All the best, Johan
