My Friend Lives on a Farm

A few years ago my friend Marc ditched city life for the Swiss countryside.

He’s been living on a farm ever since – and it’s taught him more about Personal Branding than any university or coach ever will.

Just last summer he took over a new greenhouse and stall. Running the greenhouse also meant selling at the new farmers’ market nearby.

First morning, people walk up to him and ask: “Where is Lisa?”

Marc quickly realised people weren’t there for his tomatoes. They were there for Lisa – her greeting, her stories, her smile.

He hadn’t just taken on a new stall.

He had inherited a bunch of relationship.

So he did the only thing he could:

→ learn names, and remember stories;

→ keep Lisa’s standards, and add his own flavour;

→ talk about why he’s there in the first place – not just what he’s there to sell.

And week by week, fewer people asked for Lisa. More people started asking for Marc.

Offline or online, the same applies:

→ People don’t buy from stalls or logos.

→ Talent doesn’t join because of org charts.

People buy from other people!

A face. A name. A story they recognise.

Who’s your “Lisa” – and how are you showing up where your market already is?

Wishing you a great weekend ahead 🙏🏼
